Delicious Fast Gravy

Need gravy in a hurry? This is an easy solution.

Ingredients
Directions

    Add turkey base to 2 cups boiling water and mix well to make stock; set aside.

    In nonstick pan over medium heat, toast ¼ cup of All-Purpose Flour Artisan Blend, Bread Mix, or Baking & Pancake Mix, whisking constantly until it colors from white to tan, 5 to 10 minutes.

    Melt butter in pan, add the toasted flour, and mix well. Add stock, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Add milk or cream, if desired. Simmer over medium heat to thicken to desired consistency, whisking constantly. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve in a warm bowl or gravy boat.

I have used and enjoyed Pamela's Baking & Pancake Mix for many years. However, the labels on Better than Bouillon (regardless of flavor) no longer state they are gluten free. In fact, their FAQ page states as follows:

"Are Better Than Bouillon Food Bases gluten-free?

We do not make the gluten-free claims upon any of our Better Than Bouillon Food Bases."

Would regular bouillon work as a substitute?

This recipe also works well with Pamela's Baking mix. Gives the gravy a roasted, slightly sweet flavor. Very good chicken gravy.

I have used this recipe in a few variations changing only the type of (flavor) of bouillon. My wife likes me to use better than bouillon when I am making small amounts of gravy. Some organic I have also used various chicken and turkey broths. My breakfast gravy however blows all healthiness out of the water when I add pieces of sausage and some of the fat from the pan
