I really hate to write this review. I love the taste and texture of Pamela's gluten-free flour. However for two or three years I have been plagued with these horrible horrible life-altering stomach aches that happen after eating gluten-free items. Not always though sometimes there's no stomach ache at all but other times especially if I eat something with Pamela's flour in it two days in a row it literally causes a plug in my gut. By day three after 48 hours of excruciating stomach pain that isn't helped by gas medicine laxatives or Tylenol I usually end up vomiting a lot. It is causing a blockage because of the inulin fiber that is in this Pamela's gluten-free flour. I have compared it to other brands like Pillsbury or Bob's Red Mill or even Walmart's Great value brand gluten free flour all of which leave my stomach feeling fine and none of them have inulin in them. This is how I have finally figured it out because these stomach aches are brutal and I'm in the middle of one right now. This is about 36 hours in. I made the mistake of making homemade gluten-free bread for myself and my kid with Pamela's gf flour, and had two or so pieces of it the day before yesterday and just one piece yesterday and I've been bent over in stomach pain again...couldn't sleep all night the same feeling I always get and then usually by day three I start vomiting. So I can tell you exactly which restaurants I believe are using this flour by the severe gut aches I get from eating waffles that are made with this kind of gluten-free flour or even hamburger buns. I'm so happy I finally figured it out but oh my gosh I cannot tell you the suffering I have been through. I checked on the Celiac Reddit and the gluten-free Reddit and let them know what I had found and I had several several several people saying yes they can't even come near inulin fibers because many people who have Celiac also cannot digest certain kinds of fiber. I'm sure they have added this to try to keep the food more healthy and I get that absolutely and I actually appreciate that but they might want to consider the audience. Many of us cannot handle chicory root inulin or other kinds of fibers. Even my kid who has a good gut and lots of probiotics was bent over in stomach pain today from the bread I made...from the inulin! She told me she gets it getting every time when I use Pamela's flour. And this isn't a one-time deal this happens probably at least every other month for years. I literally thought something was just wrong with me and almost had a full scope over this. I'm so grateful that I have figured it out without a doubt now. So if you end up in bent over stomach pain after you eat Pamela's gluten-free flour I suggest you do some research on inulin and try out some different brands. I really hope that sometime they come out with a gluten-free flour that doesn't have insulin. I would be better off eating wheat flour than eating this flour again I'm sorry to say. I am sure their intentions are good though
Hi Angi, we're sorry to hear that Pamela's Gluten Free All Purpose Flour Mix does not suit your family's dietary needs. This product contains sorghum flour, which naturally contains a very small amount of the soluble plant fiber inulin, but we do not add any additional inulin to our flour blend. While we have not heard from any other customers with this particular issue when using our all-purpose flour blend, we will keep your feedback in mind as we consider new products in the future and appreciate your letting us know of your experience.
Pamela's All-Purpose Flour is my choice for baking. Actually, Pamela's brand is the only flour I ever buy anymore. It bakes well and I have been finding a variety of recipes to try for quick breads. The texture is perfect in my baked goods... not gummy or heavy, but fluffy and light.
We have not found very many flours that are as easy to use AND that taste good!! We love Pamela's GF artisan flour.
We used to be able to get this in the stores here in CO but lately it’s been out of stock and hard to get everywhere. I hope it comes back soon!!
I have tried a variety of gf flour and feel this is the best one for baking.
